Once a patent is issued, can it be revoked or modified?

There are procedures for correcting mistakes after a patent has issued. There are also reexamination proceedings that can be initiated another party or by the Patent Office itself when it appears that information relevant to patentability had been overlooked during the initial patent examination. The scope of such reexamination proceedings has been significantly expanded by the enactment of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act. Issued patents can also be invalidated by the federal courts when they deal with patent infringement actions.
